PROGRAM OVERVIEW
EduGate, LLC. is pleased to offer a custom College Preparation Program hosted by the UC Davis Center for International Education (CIE) .
This program consists of a series of daily classes tailored to the college admissions process and afternoon English, workshops and activities focused on college preparation. The English classes for the program include Communication Skills, U.S. Society and Culture, College Writing, College Study Skills, and Presentation Skills. The focus of the Communication Skills class is to increase both the fluency and accuracy of the students’ speaking skills as well as to give the students opportunities to examine various conversation styles in different situations. In U.S. Society and Culture, students will learn about American attitudes, values, history, and popular culture in relation to their own culture. In College Writing and College Study Skills, students will learn how to improve their writing and develop good habits to become a successful college student. In Presentation Skills, the students will conduct research and work on developing their presentation skills as well as give an individual presentation at the end of the program.
The primary goals for the program are:
To offer the students a cross-cultural experience
To enhance their knowledge and use of American English
To enhance their knowledge of higher education in the United States
To improve their preparation for higher education in the United States
To increase their basic knowledge of American culture
To experience various sites within Northern California of academic, historical, and social significance
To further prepare them for undergraduate education in the U.S., the program includes a talk by UC Davis admissions, workshops on the college admissions process and preparation, U.S. College Study Skills course, SAT (or ACT) and TOEFL preparation workshops, and tours of the UC Davis, Stanford, and UC Berkeley campuses. The students will have the opportunity to enjoy interaction with UCD students bowling and outlet shopping. The program concludes with student presentations and a Certificate Ceremony. Student Assistants will direct the students on all of the daily activities as well as accompany them on all field trips.
ACADEMIC COORDINATOR
An Academic Coordinator will be assigned to oversee the academic program to ensure that program goals will be met and the academic standards remain high.
STUDENT PROFILE
The group number is expected to be 12-30 high school students who are interested in improving their language skills and learning about and preparing for undergraduate opportunities in the United States.
HOUSING
Students will be placed in home-stays in the city of Davis or the surrounding area. For their homestay experience, the students will have private rooms, three meals per day, and access to laundry facilities and a telephone for local calls; students will need to use a calling card for long distance calls.
